Our History
Hill Creek Farms is a 4-generation family-owned and operated apple orchard and farm.
The Sorbello family of Hill Creek Farms are four-generation fruit and vegetable growers, featuring three orchards’ apples, pears, plums, peaches and nectarines as well as 50+ vegetables.
Fred Sorbello, the current owner, began working the fields of Hill Creek Farms when he was 8 years old. Though he inherited the family farm at age 23, nine years later he decided to break away from farming and enter the world of Food Logistics. Fred went on to own and operate one of the largest 3rd party food logistics companies in both the USA and the world, with facilities in Europe, South America, Australia, UK, and North America. His company had become the largest handler of meat and fruit nationwide and is one of the largest exporters of poultry in the USA.
Despite these successes, in 2006 Fred began to reflect on his family’s legacy and felt it was time to return to the farm. Fred’s intention was to remind his grandchildren how it all started, when his grandparents first immigrated from Italy in the early 1920s, to provide his family with a better life. These days, Fred’s children operate his food logistics company while he spends his time teaching his grandchildren and the greater Mullica Hill community all about life on the farm.
Hill Creek Farms takes pride in providing visitors with an authentic working farm experience. When you visit, you’ll discover that there’s so much more to explore beyond apple picking. The orchard is brimming with exciting games and activities designed to captivate the imaginations of children and adults alike. Kids will be thrilled by our exciting attractions, whether they’re digging for buried treasure at the Gem Mining Co. or hopping aboard the Barrel Train Express. End the day at the Auburn Road Wine Garden, which offers locally made wines, so everyone in the family has something to look forward to.
After working up an appetite exploring the farm, head over to our Farm Market, where you’ll find a delectable selection of fresh produce and sweet treats. Indulge in our apple cider donuts, apple pies, and cakes prepared in our on-site bakery. Don’t forget to grab a jug or two of our refreshing apple cider!
